The ISSA is perhaps, the only professional Social Science organisation, indeed a pioneer, in giving professional awards.
ISSA is committed to promoting Young Social Scientists of the country by inculcating among them writing and presentation skills. There are three awards for the Young Social Scientists viz Professor Radha Kamal Mukherjee Young Social Scientist Award, Golden Jubilee Young Social Scientist Award and Dr Mukul Srivastava Memorial Award. These are awarded through contest. ISSA is again a pioneer in awarding and promoting Young Social Scientists.
The senior awards were for Life Members of ISSA. But the Trust Board decided to transcend the Membership boundary and seek closer networking and association with Social Science Associations and Institutes across the country. In our endeavour to recognise the accomplishments of Social Science / Social Work Educators and Practitioners, senior and emerging both, we are collaborate and associate with Associations and Institutes to Award Educators and Practitioners with ISSA Awards during functions of these Associations and Institutes. The Awards carry a Citation and a Plaque. The Young Social Scientists who are ranked high in the apecific Award are also awarded Life Membership of ISSA. The Awards are:
This Award is given for contributions made in developing the social science disciplines-Anthropology, Criminology, Education, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work etc.; for excellent research in and commendable teaching of social science(s); for social activism and other professional contribution. Prof. D.P. Mukerji Fellowship Award is awarded every year to Senior Social Scientists. D.P. Mukerji Fellowship Award consists of a plaque, citation and a certificate. The Indian Social Science Association instituted a medal in 1994 in the memory of Professor D.N. Majumdar, who was an internationally known Anthropologist, a teacher with exceptional qualities and a field worker par-excellence.
This medal is awarded to a social scientist dedicated to ‘Field Work’ and with reputed published monographs/books.
The recipient of the medal is required to deliver a lecture on any subject/topic of his / her choice.
